Before your first class

Do I need a pattern?

I've never shown — can I enter?

You can take part from home. Eligibility is set by the event and class, so check your age division and the show’s Youth or Amateur requirements before entering. Read the eligibility rules.

What tack and attire do I need?

Discipline-appropriate tack is required; discipline-appropriate attire is recommended. Hunt coats, chaps, braiding and banding are optional. See tack and attire.

How long should the video be?

Follow your class instructions and film one continuous, unedited take. Rail walk-trot videos are 90–180 seconds; rail walk-trot-canter videos are 150–300 seconds. For patterns, record the complete printed sequence through the finish. Read the filming guide.

When do I film?

Register before filming, with your entry placard visible at the start of the video. Upload anytime after you register, until November 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Read the video rules.
